Peter Barrett, Scottish Liberal Democrats candidate for Perthshire North, has called for the Scottish Government to provide a clear routemap out of Covid restrictions for local Wedding venues.
Mr Barrett said. “The news that wedding receptions can start again from 26th April for up to 50 people with no alcohol still leaves wedding venues with huge uncertainty and anxiety. Weddings are the core events that sustain many multi-purpose venues and are key to those rural businesses’ sustainability and viability. Weddings are usually a long time in the planning and business is not simply going to resume with four weeks notice.”
Cllr Barrett stressed the importance of wedding venues supply chains to the local economy. He said. “One venue operator in the Carse of Gowrie described the massive array of local businesses involved in providing goods and services. From food and drink, to flowers and taxis, hairdressers and other close contact service providers, musicians and bands. Weddings also contribute significantly to hotels, B&Bs, restaurants and visitor attractions, their reach into the local economy is significant.”
At Councillor Barrett’s behest Lib Dem Leader Willie Rennie has raised the issue with the Scottish Government’s Cabinet Secretary for the Rural Economy.
