Perth City Centre Councillor Peter Barrett welcomed the news of funding to support households with pre-payment meters impacted by increased fuel costs due to lock-down.
Almost £150,000 is available to support tenants and residents who have pre-payment meters. The support will be provided in the form of £49 pre-payment vouchers and is available throughout the North East Region on a first come first served basis. Cllr Barrett said. “This is vital support for local households who have struggled to cover their gas and electric costs and for people who were already in fuel poverty. However there is a limited supply of 3037 vouchers. I want Perth and Kinross customers to make maximum benefit and uptake of the scheme. Residents can claim up to 3 vouchers, one for each of the next three months and the scheme opens today.” Cllr Barrett warned that the project may not last for three months if the funding is fully spent sooner. He said. “It is important that people do not put of making a claim if they meet the criteria. If uptake of the funding is rapid then it may not last three months, so I urge local residents to make a claim without delay. It is vital that local people are able to afford energy for cooking, heating and living costs and this scheme can provide local residents with important assistance.”
Vouchers can be claimed by calling Home energy Scotland on 0808 808 2282. Residents must have a pre-payment meter, live in Perth and Kinross, Dundee, Angus, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire or Moray areas and be impacted by Corona virus either by having to spend more time at home, have incurred increased fuel costs or are living in fuel poverty.
